MMA Gloves in Mauritius
Open-palm MMA gloves for grappling and sparring, stocked at Nova Sports in Port Louis.
Why MMA gloves are not small boxing gloves
An MMA glove is open-palm and light because you have to grip, frame, post and submit while wearing it. That design leaves far less padding across the knuckles than a boxing glove — which is the point, and also the limit. They are right for grappling, clinch work and light technical striking, and wrong for hard sparring rounds, where a boxing glove is simply the safer tool.
Most people who train MMA seriously end up owning both and using each for what it was built for. Sparring gloves sit between the two: more padding than a grappling glove, still open-palm. See the boxing range for heavy sparring gloves and the MMA range for guards and shields.
What is the difference between MMA and boxing gloves?
MMA gloves are open-palm and light so you can grip and grapple. Boxing gloves are closed and heavily padded. They are not interchangeable.
Can I spar in MMA gloves?
Light technical work only. For hard striking rounds use boxing gloves — there is not enough knuckle padding in an MMA glove.
Grappling gloves or sparring gloves?
Grappling gloves are lighter and made for the mat. Sparring gloves carry more padding while staying open-palm. Serious trainers own both.
