Taekwondo Equipment in Mauritius
Taekwondo equipment in Mauritius: doboks, rank belts and sparring protection, stocked at Nova Sports in Port Louis.
What a taekwondo club actually asks you to buy
Two things, usually, and in this order: a dobok and a belt. The dobok is not a karate gi — it pulls over the head with a V-neck instead of wrapping across the front, so it stays shut through kicking drills rather than coming open every round. A black collar means dan or poom grade; plain white is what everyone else wears. Belts are sized by length, not by grade, so tell us the wearer's height and we will match it at the counter.
Then the sparring kit. Taekwondo scores to the head and the body, so the guards sit in different places to a boxing setup: dipped-foam hand protectors that leave the palm open, shin guards under the trousers, instep guards over the top of the foot where a roundhouse actually lands, and an open-face head guard with the padding across the crown and the cheeks. Dipped foam throughout — one moulded piece, no seams to split, nothing that holds sweat in island humidity.
The full set is in stock: the WT-style dobok, grading belts, and dipped-foam hand protectors, shin guards, foot protectors and an open-face head guard. The mouth guards and groin guards that most sparring rules ask for are in accessories. New to the sport? Our guide to starting taekwondo in Mauritius covers what to buy first, and belt colours explains the grading order.

Is a dobok the same as a karate gi?
No. A dobok is a V-neck pullover; a karate gi wraps across the front and ties. Clubs will expect the right one, so buy for the art you train.
What does the black collar mean?
Dan and poom grades wear a black collar. Kup grades wear a plain white dobok.
How are the belts sized?
By length, not by grade. Tell us the wearer's height on WhatsApp and we will match it at the counter.
