Choosing gym and lifting accessories
A lifting belt does not hold your back up — it gives your abdominal wall something to brace against, which is why it earns its place on heavy squats and deadlifts and does nothing useful on curls. Stiffness matters more than width for most people. A lever closes and opens at the same tension every rep, which suits squats; a prong lets you run it looser for deadlifts and tighter for squats without buying two belts. There is a fuller guide to lifting belts, lever versus prong if you are deciding between them, and every belt we make is on our lifting belts page.
Straps and wrist wraps solve opposite problems and get confused constantly. Straps tie you to the bar when your grip fails before your back does, on heavy pulls. Wrist wraps stabilise the joint under a loaded press. Knee sleeves add warmth and a little rebound out of the hole. There is a longer guide to what to check on each piece before you buy. Ask us on WhatsApp and we will talk through what you actually lift. If you also train striking, the boxing range and the accessories range are on the same counter.
Gym gloves, straps and home fitness equipment
For grip and hands, see the gym gloves and the lifting straps and grips; for joints, the knee sleeves and wrist wraps. Training at home? Dumbbells from Rs 800, yoga mats, foam rollers, skipping ropes and ab wheels are on the home gym and fitness page. Choosing between a back support belt and a lifting belt? Read our guide to back support belts and lifting belts.
What does a lifting belt actually do?
It gives your abdominal wall something to brace against, raising intra-abdominal pressure. It does not support your spine on its own.
Lever belt or prong belt?
A lever gives the same tension every rep, which suits squats. A prong lets you change tension between lifts without owning two belts.
What is the difference between lifting straps and wrist wraps?
Straps tie your hands to the bar when grip fails on heavy pulls. Wrist wraps stabilise the wrist joint under a press. They are not interchangeable.
Do I need knee sleeves to squat?
No, but they add warmth and a little support out of the bottom of the squat, which many lifters prefer on heavy days.
