Karate Equipment in Mauritius

Karate gi, rank belts, mitts, head guards and shin and foot guards, stocked at Nova Sports in Port Louis.

Choosing karate equipment

A gi is bought slightly long: cotton shrinks with washing, and a sleeve that ends at the wrist when new will sit above it within a month. Most dojos want the jacket sleeve to finish partway down the forearm and the trouser to clear the ankle. If your club has a rule on weight or cut, tell us and we will match it rather than guess.

Rank belts are sold separately from the uniform, so a grading does not mean buying a whole gi again. For sparring, most Mauritian clubs ask for mitts, shin and foot guards and a mouth guard — check with your sensei first, since requirements differ by federation. Our size guides cover fit, the accessories range has the mouth guards, and our guide to gi sizing and shrinkage goes through it properly.

How should a karate gi fit?

Slightly long when new, because cotton shrinks. The sleeve should finish partway down the forearm and the trouser should clear the ankle.

Do you sell kids' karate uniforms?

Yes, the range includes a kids' gi. Message us on WhatsApp with your child's height and we will advise at the counter.

Is the belt included with the gi?

Belts are sold separately, so a grading does not mean replacing the whole uniform.

What protection do I need for karate sparring?

Most clubs ask for mitts, shin and foot guards and a mouth guard, but requirements differ by federation — check with your sensei first.
