What a karate club actually asks for
Karate shin and foot guards are a single piece for a reason: the shin takes the block and the instep takes the contact, and a guard that stops at the ankle leaves the part of the foot that actually lands unprotected. They are lighter and thinner than Muay Thai shin guards because kumite is about control rather than absorbing full-power round kicks, and because a bulky guard slows the leg down enough to change how you score.
Colour matters more here than in any other discipline we stock — many federations run red and blue for kumite, so check what your dojo or your competition requires before buying. Why are karate shin guards combined with a foot guard?
Because the instep is what lands. A guard that stops at the ankle protects the shin and leaves the striking surface of the foot bare.
Are karate shin guards the same as Muay Thai ones?
No. Karate guards are lighter and thinner for controlled kumite contact. Muay Thai guards are built to absorb full-power round kicks and are much bulkier.
