Choosing Muay Thai equipment
Muay Thai shorts are cut short and wide at the leg for a reason — you cannot throw a head kick or take a high knee in shorts that bind at the thigh. Shin guards take the most punishment of anything you own, since every check is bone on bone. Ours have the foot pad built in, so the instep is covered on every kick, and they work just as well for kickboxing and MMA: see the Muay Thai shin guards. Thai pads, kick shields and gloves
Thai pads strap to the holder's forearm to catch kicks, knees and body shots; we have curved leather and rexine versions, sold individually. The kick shield is the bigger pad for full-power round kicks. Both are usually a gym purchase rather than a personal one — if you are kitting out a club, message us and we will work through the list with you.

What do I need to start Muay Thai?
Gloves, hand wraps, a mouth guard and shorts get you through beginner classes. Shin guards come in as soon as you start pad and partner work.
Why are Muay Thai shorts cut so short?
To let the hip travel. A longer, tighter short stops a head kick and a high knee before your leg does.
Do I need shin guards straight away?
Not for your first classes, but as soon as you check kicks with a partner. Every check is bone on bone.
What are Thai pads?
Curved pads a coach or partner straps to the forearm to hold kicks, knees and body shots. Ours are Rs 2,900 in leather and Rs 1,800 in rexine, sold individually; most coaches take two.
Is Muay Thai equipment the same as kickboxing equipment?
Mostly. Shorts, shin guards, hand wraps, gum shields and pads carry over. Club rules on shin guards and gloves vary, so check with your coach.
