Weightlifting Gloves in Mauritius
Gym and weightlifting gloves from Nova, stocked in Port Louis.
What gym gloves are actually for
Gloves are palm protection, not grip. They put a layer between your hand and a knurled bar so the skin at the base of your fingers stops tearing, which is the reason most people give up on high-rep pulling long before their back or grip is the limit. What they do not do is hold you to the bar — if your grip is failing on heavy deadlifts, that is a job for straps, not for a thicker glove.
Padding is a trade. More of it is kinder on the palm and slightly worse for feeling the bar, which matters on pressing where you want the weight stacked over your wrist rather than rolling. If you are between options, tell us on WhatsApp what you train and how often, and we will go through it at the counter. The rest of the gym range is on the same wall.
Do gym gloves improve your grip?
No. They protect the palm from tearing and from the bar knurling. If grip is what fails on heavy pulls, lifting straps are the tool for that.
Gloves or lifting straps?
Gloves for comfort and skin protection across a whole session. Straps for heavy pulls where your grip gives out before the target muscle does. They solve different problems.
Will gloves stop calluses?
They reduce how fast calluses build and stop them tearing, which is usually the real complaint. They will not remove calluses you already have.
